    Our History

In 1963, Louis Muench, Sr., his wife, Doris, and their family moved to Cumberland, Wisconsin, from Chicago where Louie was a meat cutter. He took a position with The Company Store in Cumberland as the Meat Department Manager.

In 1970, Louie realized his own dream of business ownership and opened the doors to Louie’s Finer Meats on Cumberland’s Main Street in the building that is currently the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce office. In 1978, Louie’s expanded and moved to its present location on Hwy. 63 on the north end of Cumberland. Several additions and remodeling projects have followed through the years.

In 1975, Louie’s began participating in competitions and today Louie’s has won over 600 awards in State, National, and International competitions.

In 2011, Louie’s purchased the adjacent “North Country Liquor” and renamed it Louie’s Lodge. An expanded building for the Louie’s Lodge liquor store was completed in 2016.

Through the years, three of the six Muench children have followed in their father’s footsteps. Louis Muench Jr. (and sons Louis K. and Eric), James Muench (and wife Teresa), and William Muench have all dedicated their careers to Louie’s. You can always count on seeing one or more of the Muench family behind the meat counter.

The Muench family would like to invite you to stop by their store in beautiful Cumberland, Wisconsin. Everyone at Louie’s takes the utmost pride in our hometown atmosphere and customer service. We would like to thank all of our old and new customers for allowing us to serve you for over 50 years!

At Louie’s we make sausage with a combination of old school and new school, but any way we make it, you can taste the dedication we put into each sausage!
